Ethanol has a number of benefits. One of those benefits is that it saves consumers money. According to a study by Iowa State University, ethanol use and production kept gas prices $.89 per gallon less than they would have been without ethanol in the market. On an annual basis, ethanol saves families an average of $800 per year. From 2000-2010 ethanol kept gas prices around $.25 lower than they would have been, $35 billion in avoided costs at the pump for consumers.
