Promotion and Education

One of the main purposes of the SDCUC is to educate consumers about corn and corn-related products. One way that the SDCUC helps to educate consumers about the many uses of corn is by attending trade shows and state fairs. Other ways that the SDCUC tries to keep in contact with their consumers is by running television, radio, and newspaper ads explaining the advantages South Dakota has in developing value-added agriculture, and printing brochures that explain about corn related products and their new uses.

Not only does the SDCUC educate consumers but also producers. The SDCUC works hard to make sure South Dakota producers stay on the cutting edge of agriculture by hosting educational workshops, printing a quarterly newsletter that contains the latest information on farming practices and trends, and educational marketing campaigns.

The SDCUC supports numerous agriculture education programs including Ag-in-the Classroom, FFA, Save our Farm Youth, Little I and 4-H. The SDCUC provides supplemental funding to these organizations to help them survive because the youth is the future of our industry. The SDCUC also awards financial scholarships to SDSU, Lake Area Technical Institute and Mitchell Technical Institute. These scholarships are awarded to either a sophomore, junior or senior on course to graduate with a major in agriculture. This has been a beneficial way to promote the corn industry careers.
