CORNPAC

Promoting the interests of corn growers through the electoral process

CORNPACSouth Dakota Corn Growers CORNPAC is a political action committee that promotes the economic and social well-being of South Dakota corn producers and other agricultural-related interests. We provide an opportunity for agricultural supporters to take part in electing state officials through contributions raised to fund political campaigns. And we contribute only to those candidates who are willing to commit full support to the needs and values of South Dakota corn producers.

What issues are important to CORNPAC supporters?
Ethanol, private property rights, zoning regulations, wetlands reform, biotechnology, transportation, value-added agriculture and livestock development—these are the most pressing issues in South Dakota agriculture today.

Why does my support matter?
Any agricultural issue that affects one producer affects all producers. And CORNPAC makes our interests known to candidates who we trust to listen objectively, understand our concerns and act on issues accordingly. Legislators need the support of the agricultural community to fund increasing expensive election campaigns. And a contribution from CORNPAC demonstrates our respect for a candidate’ agricultural views.

How much do I contribute?
Only as much as you are comfortable contributing, and no more. Contributions levels typically range from $50, $250, $500 or $1,000—but the amount you choose is entirely up to you. CORNPAC—like all political actions committees—can only accept contributions from individual supporters like you. We are prohibited from accepting contributions from corporations or associations.

Where do I send my CORNPAC contributions?

Simply print and complete the CORNPAC contribution form. And send it, along with your contribution, to CORNPAC, 4712 S. Technopolis Drive, Sioux Falls, SD 57106.

When is the best time to give?
Your contributions are always welcome and gladly accepted throughout the year.

Who does CORNPAC support?
CORNPAC supports candidates for election to the South Dakota Legislature and state constitutional offices. Candidates who are prepared to promote the interests of corn growers are encouraged to contact CORNPAC for additional information regarding our support.

What method does CORNPAC use to determine which candidate receives support?
Generally, CORNPAC uses a rating system that includes—but is not limited to—the following factors:

  • The integrity and character of the candidate without regard to party affiliation

  • The candidate’s membership in the South Dakota Corn Growers Association

  • The candidate’s position and/or voting record on issues involving agriculture policy

  • The candidate’s answers to our agricultural policy issues questionnaire for incumbents and non-incumbents

  • The candidate’s leadership or policy-shaping position in the respective party, legislative committee

  • Any other criteria developed by the committee
