Bill Chase District 8

Bill Chase

Bill Chase of Wolsey, S.D., has been actively engaged in production agriculture for over 30 years and he operates a diversified farming enterprise with his wife, Kathy, and four sons. Bill began his term in the SDCUC board in 2010.

Bill was raised on a farm north of Huron, S.D. and started farming on his own in 1976. His family operation today consists of growing corn, soybeans, wheat and alfalfa and managing a cow/calf operation.

Over the years Bill has been active in several commodity and farm organizations. He was a director on the South Dakota Corn Growers Association (SDCGA) board, serving as the organization’s president from 2008-2010. He was instrumental in policy development on both a state and national level.  Nationally, Bill served as chairman of the Production and Stewardship Action Team for the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA).  He currently serves on the Public Policy Action Team for NCGA.

From 2005-2006, Bill worked with industry leaders from throughout the United States on the Future Structure of Agriculture Task Force, including a term as vice-chairman. Bill is also a member of the state Farm Service Agency committee.

According to Bill, the most important issues facing today's corn producers are the combination of low commodity prices and high production costs.

Bill and Kathy’s four sons are Benjamin, Joseph, Nathan and Spencer.
