James Krier - District 14

James KrierJames Krier and his wife, Nancy, have a diversified farming operation at Herrick, S.D. They have about 2,400 tillable acres on which they grow corn, soybeans, wheat and alfalfa. They have both a cow-calf and backgrounding cattle operation. In addition, Krier owns and operates the Herrick branch of Creston Fertilizer, which offers crop protection products, fertilizer and Pioneer seed.

Krier holds a Bachelor of Science degree from South Dakota State University in civil engineering. He chose farming as a career in the spring of 1986 after serving six years in the U.S. Airforce.

Krier says he chose the profession of agriculture because, “I enjoy the work, lifestyle and challenges associated with agriculture.”

In addition to his position on the board of directors for the South Dakota Corn Growers Association representing district 14, Krier is the supervisor for the Gregory County Conservation District; is on the board of directors for the Gregory County Elevator; and is the chairman of the Gregory County Planning Board.

Krier and his wife have two children, Natalie, 16, and Sam, 14. In his spare time, Krier enjoys hunting and ice fishing.
