Jim Thyen - District 6 - Secretary
Jim Thyen lives in Waverly, SD, where he farms corn, wheat, soybeans, and alfalfa. Jim also engages in a dairy and finishing cattle operation as well. He has served on the SDCGA board since January 2002 and was elected to the office of Secretary in January of 2008.
Jim started farming in 1983 with his family. He chose this profession because it was a family operation and he enjoys working in agriculture.
Jim and his wife Penny have four children: Ryan, Jason, Sara, and Samantha. Whenever possible, he enjoys spending time with his family.
In addition to serving on the SDCGA board, Jim has also served on the Sioux Rural Water Board and the Codington County Weed Board. He is a member of the South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association, and the Cateau Cattlemen’s Association.
