South Dakota Corn Utilization Council (SDCUC)
SDCUC Board Members
Brian Smith - District 5
Brian Smith manages a diversified farming operation near Montrose, S.D., which includes corn, soybeans, small grains and alfalfa. He also raises dairy replacement heifers. Smith joined the South Dakota Corn Utilization Council board of directors in 2008.
Smith attended South Dakota State University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Ag Business. After attending college, he started farming with his parents, Paul and Bonnie, in their family corporation, Smith Farms, Inc.
Smith relates he can’t remember wanting to do anything other than make farming his profession his entire life.
“I enjoy the outdoors and there’s always something different going on every day,” said Smith.
Smith says the rising cost of inputs is an important issue facing corn producers today.
He will be married in July of 2008 to his fiancée, Stephanie. In his spare time he enjoys deer and pheasant hunting. In addition to his position on the SDCUC board, Smith is a member of the Dairy Calf and Heifer Association.
