Mark Garber - District 13

Mark Garber lives 12 miles east of Pierre, where he farms with a four-year rotation of winter wheat, spring wheat, corn, sunflowers, and soybeans while using complete no-till practices in his operation.

Garber has a long history of leadership in the state Corn organizations as he first served on the South Dakota Corn Growers Association board from 1999 through 2004. During that time, he was chairman of the National Corn Growers Association Grower Services Action Team for two years.

Mark began farming after high school and, during the dry years of 1976-77, worked for the Department of Game, Fish & Parks. He returned to farming in 1978. He and his wife, Denise, were married in 1979 and have three children; Dustin, Cliff and Destiny. Mark is also active in the Hughes County Zoning Board, where he currently serves as president.

According to Mark, the most important issue facing today's corn producer is how to provide the next generation opportunities to farm.
