The Natural Resources Conservation Service announced today that it has extended the period for which it will be receiving comments on its proposed State Offsite Methods for Wetland Determinations until Friday, February 20th.
The extension provides the public with 17 extra days to submit official comments, as the prior deadline had been tomorrow, Tuesday, February 3rd.
The South Dakota Corn Growers believe that the State Off-Site Methods for Wetland Determinations should be OPTIONAL to farmers and landowners if enacted and urge all interested parties to let your voice be heard in order to protect federal property and drainage rights.
The idea of the NRCS incorporating these methods is alarming, but with the enormous wetland determination backlog in South Dakota forcing growers to wait 1-2 years to get an answer and conservation compliance now attached to crop insurance, this procedure could prove beneficial to the state’s farmers under certain circumstances.
