Born and raised in Spencer, Iowa. Barb was not a farm girl but did walk beans and detassel corn every summer along with working at the family-owned skating rinks in Spencer, Okoboji and Estherville, Iowa.
Barb moved with her family to Sioux Falls her senior year of high school. After high school, Barb attended South Dakota State University.
Barb is married and has two daughters and a stepson and stepdaughter. She keeps busy at her lake cabin and running a non-profit she established in 2019 whose mission is to support literacy, children, teachers and education. This was created in honor and memory of her daughter, Caitlyn. Live Like Cat.
A little-known fact about Barb is she has finished 5 marathons after the age of 40. Who knows if there is one more in her future?
Having already learned a lot in the short time with SD Corn, she is excited about helping grow the state's corn industry.
