MEDIA ADVISORY: House Ag Committee Chair to speak to media

Posted on January 05, 2007

The South Dakota Corn Growers Association (SDCGA) is pleased to announce that Congressman Collin Peterson, D-Minn., will deliver the keynote address at the 21st Annual Meeting of the SDCGA on Jan. 6, 2007 at the Sioux Falls Ramkota Hotel and Convention Center. Rep. Peterson is the new Chairman of the House Agriculture Committee. Rep. Peterson has agreed to a media briefing following his address. Rep. Peterson will lead the farm bill direction on the House side when negotiations for the next farm bill begin this year. The farm bill is the most important piece of legislation for farmers. Gaining access to Rep. Peterson’s perspective is a tremendous opportunity for South Dakota media to tap into during the SDCGA event. The media briefing will take place at 8 p.m. at the Sioux Falls Ramkota Hotel on Jan. 6, 2007. A media room will be set up in the hotel. Peterson’s keynote address will be given during the dinner banquet of the SDCGA Annual Meeting in the Exhibit Hall portion of the Ramkota Hotel. Peterson, who grew up on a farm near Baker, Minn., has worked on the last three farm bills passed by Congress. He accepted an invitation to speak at the SDCGA Annual Meeting from Representative Stephanie Herseth, D-S.D. on behalf of the SDCGA. Peterson is expected to highlight the upcoming farm bill and his long-standing support of biofuels during his keynote address at the SDCGA’s evening banquet. Rep. Herseth and Sen. John Thune will also be in attendance at the SDCGA Annual Meeting banquet.
