SDCGA elects new board president

The South Dakota Corn Growers Association (SDCGA) has elected Reid Jensen of Burbank, S.D. to serve as their president.

Jensen has been on the SDCGA board of directors since 2000. He has held several leadership positions on the board, the most recent being vice president. He is also a board member for the South Dakota Corn Utilization Council, currently serving as the treasurer. Jensen is the SDCUC’s delegate to the U.S. Grains Council and is the chairman of the ROW A-team for that organization.

Of the many issues facing today’s corn producers Jensen believes one of the most important is creating demand for our product.

“We need to add value to our corn before it leaves the state of South Dakota,” said Jensen. “In addition to that, creating opportunities for our younger generation to have a future in production agriculture is a priority for me personally as well as the SDCGA.”

Jensen and his wife, Marilyn, raise corn and soybeans on 1,800 acres near Burbank. Reid started farming by helping his dad and traded labor for his machinery. His first year of farming independently was in 1977 when he farmed 110 acres.

The Jensens have four sons, Troy, Trent, Tony and Taylor. In addition to his work with the S.D. Corn organizations, Reid serves on the Sioux River Ethanol board of directors and is Sunday school treasurer for the Brooklyn Evangelical Free Church.

“I look forward to serving the SDCGA as president and am proud to be part of one of the most respected and recognized commodity organizations in the state,” said Jensen. I am looking forward to the challenges and the opportunities in the up coming year.”
