SDCGA honors Greg Lamp and Corn and Soybean Digest

Posted on January 12, 2010

Every year the South Dakota Corn Growers Association (SDCGA) recognizes outstanding communicators for the agriculture industry. This year the SDCGA selected Greg Lamp, editor of Corn and Soybean Digest with its Excellence in Public Outreach Award, which was announced during the SDCGA’s 24th Annual Meeting held Jan. 9 in Sioux Falls.

The Excellence in Public Outreach Award is given to journalists who go the extra mile in representing the industry to the general public with fairness, accuracy and diligence.

“Offering farmers cutting edge information to help them increase their profitability, expand their knowledge and advance their operations is priceless in an industry poised to meet the food and fuel needs of a growing world population,” said Bill Chase, president of the SDCGA. “This year’s award winner is a great advocate for our industry.”

A Brookings, S.D., native and SDSU graduate, Lamp has been editor of the Corn and Soybean Digest since 1999. He grew up on a diversified crop and cattle operation and has been in agricultural journalism since 1976.

Corn & Soybean Digest specializes in providing production, marketing and business information to corn and soybean farmers across the country. Their mission is to help corn and soybean growers maximize profits. Owned by Penton Media, the 147,000 circulation magazine is based in Minneapolis, MN, and is published 11 times a year.

“When farmers open our magazine they know just what they’re getting: reliable, tightly niched production and marketing information that helps them maximize profits,” said Lamp.

Lamp has traveled extensively overseas, reporting on foreign agriculture and its impact on U.S. farmers. Previous to his Corn and Soybean Digest post, Lamp served as managing editor of BEEF magazine, and also worked at Farm Journal, Successful Farming and Feedlot Management magazines.
