Jay Barnett

SD Corn Growers Association

Industry Director

Jay Barnett of Frederick brings a lifelong passion for agriculture to his Industry Director role on the South Dakota Corn Growers Association Board.

Born and raised in the Mississippi Delta, Barnett’s love for agriculture was cultivated on his grandparents’ farm, where he first learned the value of hard work and stewardship of the land. He earned both a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Pest Management and a Master of Science in Weed Science from Mississippi State University.

Barnett works as a Strategic Accounts Manager for Pioneer Seeds and also operates a cattle farm near Frederick, South Dakota, alongside his brother-in-law. His deep understanding of crop science and on-the-ground experience in both production and agribusiness give him a well-rounded perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing South Dakota’s farmers today.

In addition to his professional and farming roles, Barnett frequently speaks to FFA chapters, sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with the next generation of ag leaders.

In his spare time, Barnett enjoys waterfowl hunting and bourbon collecting. He and his wife, Abby, have two daughters: Viola and Maggie.
