A Special Independence Day Message from Jim Woster (Part 1)

Welcome to Corn Comments. I'm Jim Woster on behalf of the South Dakota Corn Utilization Council, a volunteer group of farmers who promote corn in this state, the United States, and around the globe.

As a person gets older, and I mean a lot older, we spend more time reminiscing; at least I know that I do! One of the fond memories of my youth is the holiday that celebrates the birth of our nation - the 4th of July! In Lyman County we were almost always knee deep in harvest and other chores. We were in the field from morning until night, that is except for the 4th of July. That day was special. My dad and uncle would stop at about four in the afternoon. We shut down the combine, finished chores and we celebrated with great food. Dad would put on a mini display of fireworks while Uncle Frank would tell us why we were celebrating the birth of this great nation. That has not changed.

On behalf of the South Dakota Corn Utilization Council, you have a safe and enjoyable Independence Day and thanks a million for all that you do!
