This Fourth of July feels extra special as America celebrates 250 years of independence. That’s 250 years of hard work, innovation, and people willing to roll up their sleeves to build something better. And if you think about it, that same spirit is alive and well on South Dakota farms every single day.
For generations, farm families have been growing the crops that help feed our country and fuel our economy. Corn has become part of nearly every Independence Day celebration — from the burgers and steaks on the grill, to the sweet corn on your plate, to the ethanol helping power the trip to the lake, and believe it or not, corn is even an ingredient in fireworks!
The Fourth of July is about freedom, family, and community. It’s neighbors gathering together, kids chasing sparklers across the yard, and farmers showing corn much taller than knee-high. Some traditions never change.
As we celebrate America’s 250th birthday, let’s also celebrate the people who continue to keep this country growing — including the farmers right here in South Dakota.
