Welcome to Corn Comments, I’m DaNita Murray, Executive Director at South Dakota Corn. We are brought to you by the South Dakota Corn Utilization Council, a volunteer group of farmers who promote corn marketing in this state, the US and around the globe.
Recently, the U.S. Department of Agriculture National Agricultural Statistics Service projected South Dakota’s corn crop at a record of slightly over 1 billion bushels. Other large corn producing states will also see record production, including neighboring states such as Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Corn marketing for ethanol, exports to other countries as well as livestock use will be increasingly critical. This includes higher use of E15 and a tariff environment that preserves corn’s foreign markets and avoids retaliatory tariffs from our trading partners. It also means ensuring consumers make decisions based on facts regarding other important uses for corn, such as fructose.
This state’s largest industry just got bigger, deepening agriculture’s reliance on customers and consumers. The Corn Utilization Council will continue to work on education and exports.
