We are excited about the possibilities of selling South Dakota corn ethanol into the California market; however, several issues remain that need to be resolved to help ensure that market demand for E15 is unimpeded. For instance, requiring new fuel dispensers would increase E15 conversion costs by at least four times and requiring new tanks would increase those costs by over 15 times. Solutions to these cost issues exist that help to maintain safety and fuel quality. Using proof of compatibility for manufacturers would help to minimize this barrier to the E15 market.
