Corn Comments: Happy New Year

Welcome to Corn Comments! I’m Chad Blindauer, President of the South Dakota Corn Utilization Council, a volunteer group of farmers who promote corn marketing in this state, the U.S., and around the globe.

As we look back on 2023, we are grateful for South Dakota’s corn farmers. Because of the voluntary one-cent checkoff, our organization participated in dozens of consumer educational events this past year --- from the Washington Pavilion in Sioux Falls to the Brown County Fair in Aberdeen. Our efforts encourage dialogue between farmers and consumers to increase trust, improve communications, and create a more favorable outlook on agriculture as a whole.

We funded numerous research projects and studies—from new uses for corn starch to soil health efforts. We are also extremely proud of our donation to Feeding South Dakota to help alleviate food insecurity here in our state.

We helped to fund portions of the Dakota Event CompleX at the South Dakota State Fair and the POET Bioproducts Center at SDSU’s Research Park in Brookings.
