Brian Hefty, one-half of the “Ag PhD” television show’s brotherly duo, will provide an in-depth presentation at the 26th SDCGA annual meeting on one of the year’s biggest topics – drainage.
Brian’s presentation is titled, “Tiling, Flood Reduction, Soil Improvement and a Billion More Dollars Per Year for South Dakota”
“People will learn more about the ancient practice of tile drainage and how revolutionary new tiling technology allows farmers to increase yield and improve the environment,” said Hefty, who is an agronomist and farmer in addition to co-host “Ag PhD.”
As the world population grows, so does the demand for more farm production. One way to increase grain yields is to improve drainage, Hefty says. Flooded fields in the past few years have prevented planting in some areas and stunted growth in other fields.
“We’re always trying to figure out ways to help you earn more money so you can not only survive, but thrive,” Hefty says.
He also will discuss how to implement a farm plan in conjunction with the Natural Resources Conservation Service, landlords, neighbors and the highway department.
Hefty is an owner of Hefty Seed Col, which has seven locations in South Dakota and six in Minnesota and Iowa. He is the author of a recently published book entitled “$100 an Hour Jobs: Lessons from Dad,” and lives on the family farm with his wife and 3 children.
