Choose Ethanol at the 75th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally

A projected 1.5 million motorcycle enthusiasts will make their way to the much-anticipated 75^th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in the Black Hills of South Dakota from August 3^rd-9^th. The sights and sounds of the world-famous rally typically blow riders away; that experience includes the successful use of ethanol blended gasoline in their motorcycles thanks to efforts from the Renewable Fuels Association and their Vice-President of Industry Relations, Robert White.

White, a military veteran who converted his own Harley-Davidson to run on E-85 (a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline), will be making his 7^th trip to Sturgis. But this ride is far from a vacation as his journey into the heart of the rally is uphill against a pile of anti-ethanol misinformation. Which is why he and others will be educating thousands of bikers about the benefits of clean-burning, money-saving, high-octane, American-made ethanol fuel, while dispelling the old myth that ethanol shouldn’t be used in motorcycles at the Legendary Buffalo Chip.

And what better way to convince riders that ethanol works than by filling up their bike’s tank for FREE. RFA will be hosting “Free Fuel Happy Hours,” where riders (with a Buffalo Chip wristband) can fill up their tanks for no charge with a 93 octane E10 (10 percent ethanol) blend. Free Fuel Happy Hours will take place from 1–4 p.m. every day from Sunday Aug. 2 through Thursday Aug. 6. During that time, Robert will also be on hand to answer any ethanol related questions and visit about his flex fuel Harley-Davidson.

“E10 is a safe and reliable fuel blend that millions of motorcycle riders use every day and it’s covered under warranty by every major motorcycle manufacturer in the market. There has been a great deal of misinformation about what fuel blends riders can use,” stated White. “We are choosing to educate motorcycle riders, rather than engaging in scare tactics, and we hope that everyone at the rally will take advantage of this unique opportunity for a free tank of fuel and for a chance to discuss the realities of ethanol.”

Attendees can also look forward to the eighth annual Legends Ride, which will take place on Monday August 3rd and benefits local charities in South Dakota’s Black Hills. The Legends Ride has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in its short history.
