SD Corn, SDSU sponsor Dakotafest speakers, activities

The South Dakota Corn Utilization Council and South Dakota State University are teaming up to bring speakers and activities to Dakotafest on Wednesday, Aug. 21 at Mitchell.

The following events will be held at the SDSU Pavilion tent that day.

11 a.m. – “A Turning Point for U.S. Agriculture,” by Arlan Suderman, senior marketing analyst for Water Street Solutions

Noon – SDSU ice cream social, entertainment by Uncle Roy and the Boys

2 p.m. – Town hall meeting featuring U.S. Rep. Kristi Noem

3 p.m. – Corn Utilization Council free sweet corn feed

Suderman’s presentation will focus on the futures market. The marketing specialist is heard daily on many radio stations across the Midwest and he shares market commentary on Twitter and Water Street’s Facebook page and web site. He also produces daily market commentary that is available by e-mail in a newsletter called MarketSensePRO. He has many years of experience in agricultural education, crop production, marketing and risk management.

Noem, who has represented South Dakota in the U.S. House since January 2011, will discuss current federal issues, including the farm bill, and answer questions.

The Corn Utilization Council also will sell raffle tickets for a new John Deere Gator. Dakotafest takes place on the Schlaffman Farm along Interstate 90 at the east edge of Mitchell.
