The burning difference between Ethanol & Gas

With big oil spilling constant non-stop nonsense about American-made ethanol, it’s important for folks to see the facts about renewable fuels for themselves. Ethanol provides an abundance of benefits including lower prices at the pump, increased octane, an economic boost, and additional domestic energy security. But an important factor that can’t be forgotten is the reduction in dirty and dangerous emissions that come using ethanol instead of conventional gasoline.

Below are some facts about how ethanol keeps our air cleaner thanks to our friends at the Renewable Fuels Association.

• FACT: Using ethanol in place of gasoline helps to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by an average of 34% compared to gasoline.

• FACT: In 2013, the 13.3 billion gallons of ethanol produced reduced greenhouse gas emissions from on-road vehicles by 38 million metric tons. That’s equivalent to removing 8 million cars from the road.

• FACT: Ethanol displaces the use of toxic gasoline components such as benzene, a known carcinogen.

• FACT: Ethanol contains 35% oxygen. Adding oxygen to fuel results in more complete fuel combustion, reducing harmful tailpipe emissions.

• FACT: Ethanol is renewable, non-toxic, water soluble and quickly biodegradable.
