UPDATE: The deadline for farmers to reallocate their base acres and update their yields at their county FSA office for the new farm bill program is this Friday, February 27, 2015 now March 31st, 2015.

News broke this morning from the USDA: Farmers Now Have Until March 31 to Update Yields and Reallocate Base Acres; Deadline for Choosing Between ARC and PLC also Remains March 31

This is an important deadline because yields have not been updated since 2002. Yields on crops raised in South Dakota have climbed steadily since that time so it will be very important for producers to act accordingly.

The best resource available to help farmers prepare for farm program decision-making is the Farm Bill Toolbox website from the University of Illinois:

Another useful farm program tool is the set of videos from Iowa State University Extension farm management expert, Steven Johnson, who is best known in South Dakota for speaking at GrowingOn events. See his videos below:

Last but not least, South Dakota Corn has a page on their website dedicated to helping farmers gather the farm program deadline dates along with links to calculators and other information necessary to help make informed decisions.
