The weather is warming up, corn is emerging and the days are getting longer. All of which means we are just around the corner from the start of summer and the Corn Cob Open, the annual golf tournament hosted by the South Dakota Corn Growers Association (SDCGA).
The four-person South Dakota-style scramble will tee off starting at 7 a.m. on June 10 at Grand Falls Casino and Golf Resort in Larchwood, IA. Throughout 18 holes of play, the course will feature games and activities, pin prizes at each hole, as well as beverages and snacks throughout the course.
Registration also includes either breakfast and lunch or lunch and dinner for players, as well as a membership to SDCGA if you aren’t already a member. Current members will receive a discount on their registration fee. Be sure to grab a spot for your team before they are all full!
Support for South Dakota’s No. 1 Industry
Not only is the Corn Cob Open a great way to meet and network with SDCGA members, farmers, agribusinesses and political leaders, it’s also an excellent way to support South Dakota’s No. 1 industry: agriculture.
Scott Stahl, president of SDCGA couldn’t agree more.
“It’s an exciting time to be in agriculture and I’m really excited that our organization hosts events such as the Corn Cob Open to network and share our story,” said Stahl. “Each opportunity we have to spread our grassroots message that we are here to support our state’s No. 1 industry, and of course, have some fun, is a great way to let political and agribusiness leaders from across South Dakota know who we are and what we do.”
New for this year’s tournament, included in the registration fee is a 3-year membership to SDCGA for those who aren’t already a member.
“SDCGA continues to tell the story of agriculture in South Dakota while facing our industry’s challenges head-on,” said Teddi Mueller, marketing and legislative director with SD Corn. “We strive to create a diverse set of opportunities to advance the corn industry across our state, country and the world, all of which we couldn’t do without the support of our strong membership.”
Lots of fun prizes
More than just an opportunity to network and support our industry, there are also a lot of fun games and prizes up for grabs at this year’s tournament. At each hole, you have a chance to swing for pin prizes such as gift cards and vacation packages for local and regional destinations.
Like each year of the tournament, there will be prizes awarded to the three teams with the top scores throughout all sessions of the day.
First place: $100 VISA gift card for each player on the team
Second place: $50 VISA gift card for each player on the team
Third place: $25 VISA gift card for each player on the team
We also think hole in ones are a big deal in golf and something worth celebrating. That’s why we have prizes at 3-par holes for golfers to take their best shot at winning. Notably, on the 18th hole, Hefty Seeds sponsor a flex-fuel vehicle giveaway for any golfer who can hit the shot, a $30,000 value.
If you can’t stick around until the end of the tournament, our staff will announce prize winners on our Twitter page, @sdcorn, at the end of the tournament.
Still time to sign up!
