Corn Comments featuring Taylor Sumption, Vice President South Dakota Corn Growers Association

Welcome to Corn Comments! I'm Taylor Sumption, South Dakota Corn Growers Association Vice President. We are brought to you by the South Dakota Corn Utilization Council, a volunteer group of farmers who promote corn marketing in this state, the U.S., and around the globe.

March 21st marks National Agriculture Day, a time when producers, agribusiness, universities, government agencies and others recognize and celebrate the abundance provided by American agriculture.

As the demand for food and fuel increases worldwide, it is important to increase public awareness about our sector. For instance, I manufacture and sell oatmeal to grocery stores in addition to raising conventional row crops. This can come in many forms – educating the public about the role agriculture plays in maintaining national security and contributions to the economy, highlighting sustainable production practices, and recognizing the importance of safe, abundant, and affordable food and fuel. It is also vital that we encourage young people to consider career opportunities in the agricultural, food, and renewable resource industries.

On behalf of the South Dakota Corn Utilization Council, Happy National Ag Day! Get involved at agday.org.
