October is Pork Month, Featuring South Dakota Pork Producers Council

Welcome to Corn Comments! I'm Chad Stoterau, an independent hog producer and row crop farmer from Garretson, SD. We are brought to you by the South Dakota Corn Utilization Council, a volunteer group of farmers who promote corn marketing in this state, the U.S., and around the globe.

October is pork month. Did you know? South Dakota ranks ninth in the nation for hog production.

Pigs LOVE corn! South Dakota’s swine heard will consume 37 million bushels of corn per year.

Pork is also great for our state’s economy! South Dakota’s pork production has a total impact of over $1.07 billion and provides over 11,000 jobs.

The United States is one of the world’s largest pork producers and exports 29 percent of pork products to consumers around the globe. Pork is loaded with protein and is an important source of nutrients like B vitamins and iron.
