More than 400 golfers will converge on Harrisburg’s Spring Creek Country Club greens for the South Dakota Corn Growers Association’s 19th Annual Corn Cob Open this week on June 24, 2010. The event features two tournaments, 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., drawing SDCGA members, farmers, agribusiness people and political leaders.
The tremendously popular event features two four-man best ball tournaments which offer tremendous prizes to be given to the top three teams of each tournament. While the afternoon tournament is sold out, a few spots still remain for the 8 a.m. flight.
“The SDCGA Corn Cob Open has grown into a ‘can’t miss’ event and the highlight of the summer for South Dakota’s agricultural community including farmers, agribusiness and top leadership in the state,” said Gary Duffy, president of the SDCGA. “The greens offer a perfect backdrop for partners in our state’s largest industry to come together for a day of networking and camaraderie.”
Once again a hole-in-one opportunity will be offered, where golfers will choose their best iron to attempt to win a 2010 Flex Fuel Vehicle with a single swing. More great prizes will be awarded on other holes as well. A noon and evening meal will be served to golfers of each tournament during which participants will have the opportunity to win items such as gas grills, coolers and more for their performance on the greens.
Registration for the Corn Cob Open is $50 per golfer for SDCGA members and $100 for non-members; this includes green fees, cart rental and the meal.
Numerous allied industry organizations have partnered with SDCGA to sponsor the 19th Annual Corn Cob Open. The premier event sponsor is Pioneer and Monsanto will sponsor the golf carts. Green sponsors include Ag United for South Dakota, Farm Credit Services of America, First Dakota National Bank, NorthWestern Energy and the South Dakota Corn Utilization Council. The Hole in One sponsor is Hefty Seed Company and Central Farmers Cooperative will host the beverage carts.
